'Lotty wins regional 'Poetry by Heart'

Lotty Holder, year 11, represented Meole Brace School at the 'Poetry By Heart' regional competition on Friday night at the Music Hall in the centre of Shrewsbury. She competed against the top pupils from schools including Moreton Hall, Concord College and Newport Girls High School; Lotty was the only representative from a comprehensive school.

Each pupil had learned 3 poems by heart and performed in front of the audience and 3 judges. Every single pupil was word-perfect. Some of the poems performed were 3 pages long; one was in Middle English. The standard was extremely high. After two overall hours of poetry recitation...

Lotty WON the competition!

The judges were impressed with her performance, her diction, her confidence and how she brought the poems to life. They felt sure that she was the perfect choice to represent the entire county at the national competition at Cambridge University.

Lotty will now be performing at the Wenlock Poetry Festival as well as being interviewed by Radio Shropshire. What an achievement! We are all glowing with pride!
