Sports, Clubs, Out of School Activities, School Trips, Visits and Transport
As a school we aim to offer more than simply examination success and to this end we are constantly seeking ways to afford pupils the opportunity to follow leisure interests. The school offers a variety of such activities, including drama, music, chess, art, table tennis, camping, canoeing, hill walking and badminton.
In addition there are two Foreign Language exchange links established, one with a school in Germany, the other with a school in France.
There are numerous opportunities for other educational visits of shorter duration, including course related fieldwork, as well as a full programme of sporting fixtures. Among the games taught and played at school are:-
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Association Football, Rugby Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball
The school benefits from extensive playing fields, its own sports hall and a full size synthetic pitch. The sports hall and synthetic pitch in particular are valuable assets, allowing a variety of activities and sports to be played and practised in most types of weather.
Cultural activities also offer great opportunities to the pupils and the school is well equipped for staff and pupils to follow exciting avenues of interest in the fields of Art, Drama and Music.
In addition there are many opportunities for pupils to develop their interest in music. Groups include the jazz band, wind band, orchestra and the choir. We very much hope that new pupils will support this flourishing tradition.
Transport for out of school activities is usually by hired coach or school minibus. The school minibus has been fitted with lap type seatbelts. For journeys further afield information is provided for parents but enquiries from parents about local or other trips are always welcomed.
Supervision is provided by school teaching and other staff as well as on occasions volunteer adult helpers. The level of supervision takes into account such issues as how many children are involved, what they are doing, where they are going and how they are travelling. The school follows the guidelines laid down by the County Council.
